What timing on your cousin's part! *grin* Do you have any idea whether or not the iguanas had mated? If they had not, then you can simply throw out the eggs. If they did or no one is certain AND you know that your cousin is not interested in raising iguanas, then it is usually recommended that the eggs be put in a container and placed in the freezer until frozen. This will keep embryos from developing. If you were to simply toss them out, there is a possibility that somehow it is warm enough that viable eggs could hatch in a trash heap/dump. That's something none of us would want to happen.

To actually incubate the eggs they would need to be kept on special soil, at certain humidity and a constant temperature. With the continuing importation of iguanas and the difficulty in individuals bringing a clutch to actual hatching, it is something that most single owners never attempt. Plus, as you can see, there are so many iguanas in a clutch it would be next to impossible to find buyers for them all and caring for 30 (or more) wouldn't be easy.

I realize I'm rambling and I apologize. I think my short answer would be that just leave things as they are until you can talk to your cousin and then I would advise that you convince him iguana raising is not the best thing in the world *grin*

As to the female's health....if she is eating well and drinking and not straining to go poop, she should be fine. If there's doubt, then a vet could x-ray her to be sure that all eggs have been laid. Also, she will need calcium supplements for at least the next couple of weeks to replenish her calcium stores. A crushed Tums over her food will work just fine if your cousin has nothing for you to use.

Hope your cousin appreciates your work!
