I was going to suggest dehydration, too! Great minds thinking alike I suppose *grin*
I know usually "pouches" "humps" or tails like the fat-tail gecko has are fat storage areas. When these start to get smaller, it is usually because they are not eating well.
I do not know what those bumps on top of male igs heads are used for to be honest. Maybe someone could look up anatomy on them in Mader's? But my gut reaction to your question, jiff, was dehydration and since he's been sick there is always that possibility. I'd try to use foods with lots of moisture OR really misting down the green veggies. If he'll soak for you, it couldn't hurt :O)
Now that I've typed this.....I'm gonna ask over at the IML and see if MK or someone knows what those bumps do for a fellow *grin* I'll post answer here if I get one.
