Hi there - I haven't been around here in a few days! I have 2 Water Dragons and Tricia's is BY FAR the BEST information available for these guys! It sounds like you are off to a good start in nursing that little guy back to health! Earthworms & Wax Worms are also a good treat for them and will help fatten them up! Earthworms have a good calcium ratio also! I get mine from a local bait shop - I get "Trout Worms". The wax worms are high in fat but are like candy to my girl - she LOVES them! My mail likes small fish! Also an excellent source of calcium (can be purchased as "feeders" at your local pet store). Their housing requirements (heat, light, & humidity) are very similar from what I understand the Iguana's to be - so you have a great deal of knowledge there to start off with. You know this from your dealings with all the Iguana ignorance around (and there is even less information available for Water Dragons) - people just don't realize how important proper care and feeding is - they listen to the bogus information given to them by the pet store and don't know when their animal is not healthy! ("Oh just throw a couple of crickets in every other day…"), they were probably told the Dragon wouldn't get much bigger also - another common misconception with Water Dragons - full grown can be up to 3 ½ feet. (What are the measurements and age of your little visitor?) Also outta' curiosity - what size/type enclosure are they housed in regularly?
Please come next door to the Water Dragon Forum if you have any more questions on the care of these guys - it's not quite as active as it is over here - but there are a lot of helpful people over there! And maybe giving the owners the addys for kingsnake here (the forums in particular) would also be a help…
Feel free to E-mail me also (addy linked above) - I don't claim to be an expert, but my vet says I have the healthiest, happiest, most tame Water Dragons she's ever seen! And they are spoiled rotten!
Good luck and please keep me posted on the outcome!
Michelle
