Although, young iguanas are rare in the rescue field, there is times where they can be found. We have one that's fairly small but the previous owners say that he's almost 2 years old. He looks more like just over a year. Since we have gotten him, he has shedded 6 times in four months.
Adopting depends on how you feel about all the unwanted iguanas out there. There's many who want a new iglet vs an older one, but this doesn't help all the neglected ones out there. Purchasing a new iguana does several things, not only the above statement but it also tells Pet Stores, that they can still import more iguanas for sell. Almost a million iguanas are imported a year into this county and out of that million, only around 100,000 will see their first birthday. And 50% of those won't see their second birthday. So that leaves about 50,000 iguanas per year, and out of that some will end up in rescue groups, others will be dumped into the wild to die.
We promote adopting, because the big picture (in my opinion) is to STOP imports. You can help by adopting.
