Do you know what kind of squash it is? If it is the yellow (crookneck?), you can simply grate it. You can also grate zucchini. If it is the harder squashes, some people cut them in half, scoop out the seeds, and microwave a piece for a few seconds to soften it up then scoop out the "meat" and cut to bite size pieces. Some people just use a potatoe peeler to make small strips of it. If you are using the harder shelled squashes, you should peel off the rind first and not use it because it sometimes gives igs problems by turning the wrong way or whatever and poking their throats, etc.
