: Update: PetCo’s Animal Control Manager called me last night. After quite a long talk she promised me she would look into the problem extensively. She agreed, for example, that the baby igs should not be kept on bark (etc) and told me she would have that and other issues checked out and changed. She promised me to have any and all lizards, etc. at the store check by a vet immediately. She also gave me her personal pager number to report any thing I see that bothers me. She seemed sincerely troubled by the reports of animal abuse and neglect and said she was going to make some changes. And, PetCo is paying my vet bill. I don’t know if this is lip service or not. The woman I spoke with did seem to care and seem genuinely disturbed by my account of what Sammy went through, the condition of the other pets in the store I saw and by the other stories I relayed from the iguana forum. I personally consider this a big victory for me as consumer, but only a small victory for the animals under PetCo’s care. The battle is not over for me just because I got my refund. I suggest we continue to press for better conditions and not slack off. I for one will visit PetCo from time to time and will NOT hesitate to use her pager. If anything, this should show that we CAN make a difference. Imagine how much better it could be if we could get a watchdog at each and every PetCo across the country with the pager number of high management. Let’s keep at it!!!
