In Reply to: Whoops, sorry Alisha. I mean Ig Chick does not understand that posted by Isis's Servant on June 11, 2001 at 18:02:04:

who keep reptiles of all kinds, I understand a lot more than you think I do. Also, BEFORE you decide that Melissa Kaplan is not publishing opinions in addition to fact you should REALLY READ her website and book,(not to mention my post where I clearly defined the difference)! It cleary states that SOME of what she says is her opinion and other things she says are based on researched fact. Furthermore, I know for a fact that she has never done any independent testing on a particular reptile item that she preaches against using because I have asked her about it directly.

Contrary to what you may think, I do not hate MK or think that everything she says is wrong. What I do believe, like I posted earlier and I will post here again Melissa Kaplan should not be the only resource people use in leanring how to care for their animals and I believe that her information does make a good resource tool when used with other material.

You know Isis, I noticed before that you only read what you want to. That was noticed clearly when you posted about the IG with MBD. When you initially posted, you were told by someone who works for the rescue that the iguana was not available for adoption .... Then you posted on the same topic and it was obvious, at least to me, that you never bothered to read any of the replies to the first time you posted, either that or you chose to ignore them because you didn't like what anyone had to say. So, then you post again and are told again the same info. It makes me wonder if you bothered to read my initial post on MK at all or if you only chose to read pieces of it.

In either case, I have to say, at the risk of sounding snotty, due to the fact that I have been keeping reptiles, iguanas in general a heck of a lot longer than you, you'll have to excuse me if I tend to follow my own experience and knowledge in lieu of yours. People need to understand, just because there are some of us who do not think that MK is a "god" in the field of reptile care, that doesn't mean that we have anything against her as a person. She can be a good person -that doesn't matter if her material is questionable.

As for me, I have no personal feelings towards her one way or the other, at least none that I feel compelled to share here. What I do think, after 15 years of research and experience is, it's never a good idea to base your entire care method on or think that you know it all because you have read one author, one book, one article or one website.
