I know you read IZ's mom's post and it has some great info. The "best" is what you decide on but live with the final cage so choose what you think would best suit your needs. You sound like you are definite on what you want to use for the top so let me change your mind (hehe, have to make you see both sides.) Lots of people have find that it is good to make the top solid. Something like an all solid top and sides down to maybe 6" below the highest self. Reason: it forms a heat pocket at the top for the iguana to "hang out" in. I am going to make a cage for indoors (already got a pvc outdoor one) and I am going to make solid walls mainly to help maintain heat & humidity. Your temps are alittle better than mine though. If your cage is totally open you would have to heat the whole room but or just cover some of the cage like IZ's mom does with clear plastic. For ideas if you wait a few (3-4) days I will be done updating (adding tons of pics) my web page. I don't know how far you are in planning but I think it is easier to draw up plans from what is available at the hard ware store. Example: you said you want your cage to be 5'x5'x7'high and that would cost me more to make than a 8'x4'x8'high and would also be more work (cutting, measuring, putting together.) It works out that way for me because of the sizes of material at stores around me.

: Will large tree branches work as ramps? or do I need to build some?

Yes and Maybe. You can do both. I would put as many as you can with out the cage starting to look cluttered.

Sorry my post doesn't flow too much if have any questions go right ahead and ask I know I would love to help you and also I think they are at least a dozen other people who would also "love"(no kidding) to help you out.

P.S. doesn't anyone else laugh when they read this? I always laugh & smile when I read my own post. i think it 'cause i have so many thoughts racing at once and it goes down stange trying to get it all out and not forget anything.....man....I just can't stop typing can i? LOL
