Sammy seems to be on the road to recovery. He is starting a full peel and the under skin looks so green and fresh. He lost all his front toes but one little thumb. We managed to save some of his back toes including his Dr. Suess toes (daughters’ term for the real long back toes) One is still a bit dark and I am not sure which way it is heading yet. He is basking, eating and pooping. (Smile)

I have sent my letters (both hard copy and e-mail) to Petco and have heard nothing. This whole thing galls me to no end. Especially since I’m having to scrape the pantry to feed the kids this week due to the hefty Vet bill. I don’t mean to sound pitiful, but it just isn’t easy being a single mom of 4. (not including the critters) I do ask if you could all join in and send your letters as soon as possible. Yes, for the animals but also on a selfish level, I really really need to be reimbursed for this vet bill and I hope it may help. I found this e-mail addy investor@petco.com And the CEO is Brian K Devine. Forgive me for sounding selfish but it really is for my kids and groceries.

MY FIRST concern is and always has been the animals. That is why I devoted many years to Animal rescue before my twins came along. I know there is power in numbers and things can be accomplished. The Vet I spoke with said other groups have tried to raise a roar against Petco and he is not sure what has happen. Maybe they have good lawyers. But this IS something we as thinking caring humans should stand up against. Even our small voice can make a difference if we stick with it and don’t take the attitude others will do it so I don’t need to. There were two very sick iglets in the tank the day I went back and now they are gone. I can’t even allow myself to think what happen to them but I do know I have to fight back somehow!

Sammy is a proud critter and will now have to live his life toeless and handicapped because a corporation wanted to make a buck and didn’t care. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! But please don’t worry about Sammy anymore, worry about the other ones yet to be abused and ultimately murdered. In the mean time, this weekend when my daughters go to visit their dad, they have plans drawn up of a little mini ramp with tiny furring strips every inch or so leading up to a basking spot for Sammy. My heart warms at the love my children show this little injured animal. Everything happens for a reason and maybe this is Sammy’s purpose. I better stop now as the tears make it hard to see. Thank you ALL for your prayers, energy and support. I think Sammy is gonna make it!!
All good things
Tori, (aka Gretchen Warnke)
