My Iguana.

I have an Iguana which is about maybe including the tail about over a foot. I need to know does the Iguana HAVE to have shade? One side of its tank is very bright from the heat lamp and the other is fairly lit. Do I NEED plastic plants? I tried to use the cardboard tube from the paper towel rolls, but he never used it.
