First thing, the salt deposit is from food items that have a salt content. You might try looking at the different food items and trying to figure out which items carry amounts of natural salts. Once you from those items, try to cut down on the amount of them, you don't have to quit using them, but limit the amount given.
As far as eating amounts, female and males can cut way down on food intake at this time of the year. If she's gravid (with eggs) then it's normal for her to reduce eating. Signs of this can be, but are not limited to: muddier color, enlarged stomach area, crankiness, and more.
You should offer her a nesting box incase she is developing eggs, it gives her some place to lay them.
