In Reply to: What is a 'normal' blood workup for an ig? What are the normal margins for those tests? posted by Thumper on December 28, 1999 at 22:49:53:
It's really not that easy, standards won't be found between the different blood works (your igs and everyone elses). Since each lab may do the testing different, readings will vary, also calibrations may be different on each labs equipment, making readings show different levels. There's no set procedure with all the lab companies as a whole, so there's no way to come up with a "set standard" on blood work.
My suggestion would be, to follow your igs blood work levels on either a yearly or bi-yearly level. Continue studying each report to make changes as need for your iguana. Whether it's on a diet base or humidity level base. You should be able to get an average going with blood works done on your iguana. You Vet should be able to sit down with you and go over lab results, if he doesn't, please ask him/her to do so. It's important to know what each level is for and how you can adjust that level to get it within the normal range. The lab report should have, what they call "normal levels" that they go by and your igs levels will be either marked as low/high or within the range.
I would like to "down the road" make a webpage, that has everyones lab results (without names of owners and igs). Making charts that follow each igs blood work and the levels each time the ig gets blood work done. One column can have the labs standard levels to compare readings. I believe much information could be gotten from this, with the shared information. Whether it's from you giving others diet information so that others can adjust levels on their own iguanas, or you might want information from someone who can suggest changing something to improve a level on your iguanas labs.
A history of diet and climate levels(humidity/temp) for each iguana put with their lab results would also help start a base for all of us to "maybe" find a better level of diet and/or environment for our igs. Humidity plays a large role in our igs life cycle as much I believe, as the diet does. Without both of these readings, it would be hard to follow each persons lab works and find a pattern to go by.
If anyone is interested in wanting to share they lab reports, let me know, I'll start working on a webpage design for them. And remember, no ones names will be posted on the site and I promise not to tell anyone, who is who on it either! The way information can be shared, is by labeling each igs reports by either a number or letter, then when someone wants to suggest something about a labwork, they can refer to the number/letter so that person will know it's their ig, the person is talking about. Does that make sense?
Ok.....rattled on too long.....late for work!!
Let me know
