Mistakes happen all the time, but we learn from them and hopefully pass on the knowledge to others.
I hope the Vet explained to you about iguana's "hindgut". It's an area in their digestional track, that are small pockets which catch food and process it. Sand, pebbles and any other thing taken in, can be caught in these pockets and cause major problems. Some of the problems won't be seen for awhile. The lost of weight do to these pockets being filled with objects that can't be process, will cut down on the regular diet intake. The food will pass right over the pockets and exit without being processed properly. This can lead to weight lost and possibly death. Always make sure areas where your iguana is going to roam freely, is free from items that can be taken in by him/her.
