Sneakers had no problem in spotting the new addition in the living room the first night after we decorated the xmas tree. She made a mad dash across the back of the couch and then a flying leap into the tree. At first I ran and got the camera as this was just to cute with her peering out of the branches amongst the candy canes and ornaments. After getting one picture, Sneakers moved to the back of the tree where we couldn't get her. Then up the branches in a flash, another leap on to the curtains, where I might add she KNOWS she is not suppose to be, then up to the top of the curtain rod. There she came to rest at the top of the curtain with the tree blocking full view of her. There she decided to stay with tremendous glee that she had evaded us all.
All of us waited for the entire evening for her to come down and rejoin the family...NOT. I'm sure I heard her giggling up there. I had to move the coffee table so I could move the ottoman so I could move the love seat that was blocking my best shot at being able to reach her. She watched the process with great interest. Then I had to get our 3ft step ladder and position it as close between the tree and the curtain as I could get it. She watched the process. I climbed to the top of the step ladder to realize that the only things I had to hold on to for balance was the curtain or the tree. Sure, they would hold my weight if I lost my balance. She watched the process. Then I had to lean in to the corner stretching out and up as far as I could to reach her. She watched the process. Just as I thought I was going to fall into the tree I was able to grab her. Thank goodness she didn't back up one more inch. I knew that she couldn't have access to the xmas tree again.
It has become harder and harder to block her from the tree each night. Tonight during her evening with us we started with her across the room on top of the bd cage. I sat on the couch to block her access to the tree. She slowly came off the bd cage and across the back of the couch. No problem, I'm in her way. She got within about a foot from me and stopped. I put my head on the back of the couch and looked her in the eye. In a split second she was up and over my face and I had to grab her in mid air as she leap for the tree. Back on top of the bd cage. Again, here she comes. Ok I'm ready for her this time. Half way across the back of the couch she stopped. She looked at the tree, then me, then to the seat part of the couch, then the coffee table, then at the love seat, at the tree, and then looked back at me. I couldn't believe it...she was calculating out an alternative route to the tree. Sure enough she put her plan into action. Caught her in mid air again. Spent the better part of 2 hours watching her figure out how to get to that tree. I felt that I was in some part of a wild chess game in which I was only able to block the opponents moves.
I can't wait until tomorrow night, she is getting better at this. Any bets on whose going to win in the long run.
Joan (Practing for the next game...tomorrow)
