IMHO ~ igs are pretty darn smart, i wouldn't think 3 yo is too old at all!

i agree with what the others have said, warm tub soaks! not too deep, not too warm ... remember your ig's body temp is lower than yours, so make the water lukewarm ... the tub is a good place to start cuz the warm water is gonna make them want to go ... (kinda like humans watching a water fountain for very long ... *grin*)

i also taught iZ "bathroom" means 'go poop' ... as soon as he'd 'assume the position' to go, i'd praise him + repeat "bathroom" to him ... so now he knows what i'm trying to do ... this also helped alot when we moved and the house has a very different tub than the apt did ... (igs don't like change remember!) ... he knew the word "bathroom" and knew he should go in the new tub ... also helped when he grew enough to get his own room ... he's got a "litter box" in there to use if he needs to go before i get home from work and since he understood the word 'bathroom' i could 'splain to him why it was there ...

teaching any animal any thing requires *alot* of patience, perserverence + consistency! igs are *not* dumb by any means, but they can be stubborn + resistant to change ... (hey, kinda like *me*!) don't worry about mistakes or 'accidents', it's all part of learning, just concentrate on the positive ~ lots of praise and headrubs + treats when s/he understands!

good luck!
