: Although a power strip would be ideal, you can plug directly into a wall socket. Here's why: If by chance something would go wrong with the lamp....electrical short in socket, some power strips have small fuse breakers on them. These would trip out, cutting off the power to the unit. With a wall outlet, if a malfunction happened, the breaker is back at the main breaker panel in your house. Depending on the electrical draw from the lamp shorting, is could or could not trip the breaker. Most often it would, but in some cases, it hasn't and a possible fire could result from it. Power strips are probably cheaper then getting a G.F.I. electrical outlet installed where your normal plug-in is. G.F.I. outlet units are required now, in all home buildings where water is within (X amount of feet) from any electrical source) Such as bathroom sinks and kitchen sinks. These G.F.I. units will trip so fast, that a chance of getting seriously shocked is slim. These units measure the amount of load that is called for from any item plugged into it. Example: You are using a hair dryer to dry your hair, you lose your grip on the hair dryer and it falls into the sink, which is filled with water... of course the unit will shortout, but the G.F.I. reads the increase of electrical power in milli-seconds and trips before any major damage can be done. Although these units are expensive ( around $6.50 ea), I would recommend them to anyone who either has young children or let's their igs free roam. I would install them on all the outlets that either the children or your iguana can get to. Remember this, it only takes two iguana fingers to short out an outlet, 1 finger in each outlet hole. A cheaper yet affective answer would be outlet cover caps, these are plastic covers that plug into the outlets and cover the holes. Most hardware stores carry them and are under a $1.00 for one set.
: Hope this helps you...any of questions please feel free to ask away.
