I totally agree with all of the answers so far stated.I would like to re state,,,adopt an ig and give one a good home and hopefully some of the problems that a young iglet has,,have been taken care of.These rescuers have gone to great lenghts to save a neglected(at best)to abused igs and bring them back to health at their expense and have worked with them to help tame them. They really care about igs.HD has pointed out all the facts for you to go by.
Now our BDs do get along with our ig Cirsis and have for years and at one time we did have them in the same inclosure,,but changed that yrs ago.Our igs and all our kids free roam,,but we have basking spots set up form them and they are supervised. We also have two cats and they leave all the kids(reptiles) alone. It takes time and a work of love to have a rewarding ig and believe me,,,we have been rewarded by our kids.Cirsis everyday, crawls out of her perch and comes and lays her head in my lap for an hour worth of petting before she heads to her cage for the evening. As HD said,,they are scent oriented and we have always used that principle in getting our kids to know us.When they first arrive,,,we put one of our old clean t-shirts in their cages and we wear a shirt the two or three times when handling with no perfumes or after shave on us so they smell themselves on us.It works wonderfully for us and many others we have told about this.
Please consider they are wonderful creatures,,but do take a lot of work in their diet, cages, poop training, etc.
Good luck and please feel free to come back with any questions you have for us.And thank you for being a responsible parent in reserching before you get a pet.
