: DAILY MAIL (Hull, UK) 26 July 99 Police capture runaway reptile that became a road hog
: A runaway has finally been apprehended by the police after being on the run for more than a month.
: Spotting Izzie, a 3ft-long iguana, sitting brazenly in the middle of a major road, PC Kevin Marshall and PC Ian Clelland leapt into action.
: The Darlington officers borrowed a dust sheet from a passing motorist and threw it over the startled reptile.
: They then bundled Izzie into the boot of their car and took her to the police station.
: She has now been reunited with her owner, builder Peter Millward, of Silverdale Place, Newton Aycliffe.
: PC Marshall said: "We were on the A67 heading towards Teesside Airport. It was just sitting in the middle of the road on the white line. We didn't know what it was at first."
: PC Clelland said: "We had to stop all the traffic or it would have been squashed. A bloke stopped in a BMW and he had a dust sheet. We grabbed its tail, threw the sheet over the top and threw it in the back of the car."
: The iguana had been reported missing in early June by Mr Millward.
: Mr Millward said he often took his pet to work with him. In June he took her to a site at Middleton St George and left the window down slightly so she could have some fresh air.
: But the rebellious reptile squeezed through the gap and disappeared.
: He said: "Thankfull, there was plenty of vegetation around for her to eat. I'm just so glad to get her back."
