Al what do you mean by broke his tail? Dry rot or cut it/injured himself somehow? Please see a herp vet as soon as possible. If cut your vet may need to put him on antibiotics so dry rot, infection does not occur , if dry rot may need to amputate and put on antibiotics. Betadine is the brand name of "hospital antiseptic" generic name povidine-iodine except more expensive, not the same as polysporin. But your vet may recommend both, first the betadine then the polysporin in conjunction with any antibiotics perscribed.

My male igs beautiful tail tip was broken too after amputation applied betadine, polysporin twice a day for 2 weeks.....after 2 months noticed slight nub (regrowth)at the end of his tail .....6 months post amputation it has grown 1/2 of an inch, is brown (Ive read they grow back black) and unbanded ..so maybe expect a slow re-growth rate. My male ig is a little over 5 feet, an adult and almost 6 years old ...perhaps that is why its slow to re-generate.
Best wishes to you & your ig...let us know how he's doin!
Gina
