My vet not to let Liz go over two weeks without eating. Lizzy roamed the house throughout the entire day, standing up against windows and glass doors scratching to get out. She drank water some each day. I gave her two different nesting boxes, in which she would dig endlessly, but never laid any eggs. Even after that long without eating, she was still strong for her surgery. The vet removed 28 huge eggs, her ovaries, and her shell glands. The only time (I was told) she could be spayed was while she was developing eggs. I didn't want to put her through that whole restless time for her again. I knew I would never let her mate, so we just did it. It took her a couple of months to get back to her potty-trained self, but she's finally there and in great health. It seemed like the dumber the vet was, the more he charged. I heard charges ranging from $150-$500 for her surgurey. The vet that finally did it charged about $240. I hope you find a good one if you decide to go through with it.
