I can understand you bouncing off walls with worry! However, we went through a similar experience with Igor, our big sav, recently. The bugger ate a number of pebbles that washed off our roof thinking that the damn things were edible. (Silly lizard!) However, he came out of surgery just fine and is doing well.
I would ask the vet what experience he had as far as reptile surgery. I would also ask what anesthetics he plans to use. if he says Isoflurane or Halothane you have a vet that knows something about what he is doing. Our vet used them with good results on Igor and a couple of other lizards we had.
As far as when to take him in, you have to make the call, but the sooner the better. it does not sound like he is in immediate extreme danger, but igs are good at covering up.
Iz will have to stay at least overnight to make sure that he comes out of sedation ok, but would'nt you feel better knowing that he is in good hands while he recovers? He'll be back home soon with a few stitches to show off.
Best of luck, and Sue and I will think positive thoughts for you and Iz!
Dan
