Mix 4 oz. bleach with 1 gall. of water. Thoroughly soak the branch in this solution, letting it soak into the wood, then rinse it thoroughly (several minutes or more may be necessary - oh yeah, let it soak in the bleach for at least 10 to 15 min.), then finally take it out and let it dry somewhere outside in the sun for a few days, but don't lay it down in the grass, put it on the driveway, or a porch or some such area. After that it should be safe for use in the cage.

: I took a large forked branch from a (healthy)tree that was being cut down and would like to use it in Merlin and Blackberry's house. I was told that branches from outdoors could contain mites. Is there some special way in which I should treat this branch in order to make it safe?
