Chris...it all depends on the size of his cage. Yes BLB poster lights are not advisable for heating because of the uvb radiation & damage to their eyes like Igmom posted but the type that are are using sounds like the screw in type not the flourescents so are ok...but may not be giving off the kind of heat your ig needs to make it thru the cold nights. I'd suggest an infared heat lamp red/blue or che (ceramic heat element)...again depending on cage size (make sure not accessible to ig,& good enough distance away, also make sure you use a porcelin top electrical fixture to handle the heat/wattage of these lamps...ya just want to keep him warm not burn him!)If you find that the heat lamp/che is just not doing the trick because of too much ventilation or like in my male igs case..his cage is outside, try wrapping a moving blanket (thick quilted blanket large around $13.00 Home Depot) around the enclosure to help retain heat at night. If his enclosure in indoors and your ambient temps are high 60's-70 ...a heat lamp should provide adequate enhanced warmth.
Good to hear your ig is doing better with the vits! And pumpkin is ok to give him as long as rest of his diet is high calcium and he's got good hydration (pumpkin has alot more phosphorus than calcium!)
Gina
