A potentially stupid question

...But I'll ask it anyway.

From all I can find through researching on the breeding season, it sounds like males go through it once a year, possibly twice. It sounds like breeding season lasts for a few months and then it's over.

Bobbit has tried to mount Habib from day one after arriving here. He almost daily leaves me seminal plugs (oh joy) on his blankets and pillows. He frequently bites Habib's tail in an effort to get on top of her, and has done a bit of superficial damage to the skin on her tail. He won't let her out of his sight, and is constantly trying to be near her. She usually handles him by sitting on top of him to keep him in submission, but sometimes, he does annoy her to the point that she will take a nibble on his dewlap to remind him who's boss.

Since this behavior has been going on since February 17th when we adopted him, I am wondering WHEN it will subside?

Perhaps I shouldn't complain--he has never shown even the slighest bit of aggression to me or to Josh, and is always friendly, social and very much likes to be talked to, held, petted, and loved. I'm just wondering when will Habib get a break? We call him the "Bobbitizer" because he is always on parole, monitoring her every move, and is constantly bugging her in an attempt to mate. I am sure she's fed up with his advances.

Do any of you know how long the breeding season can last in extreme cases? Or is this normal? Or, are males *always* trying to mate, regardless of their regular season? Does the breeding season mostly mean more of the agression-type of stuff, or does it mean that he will only try to mate during a certain time of year and then for the rest of the year, leave her alone?

I really want to know if we can count on him always bugging Habib, or if he will calm down and "just want to be friends" for the remainder of the year.

Habib is one female who I'm sure cannot wait for the "lets just be friends" talk. :)

Thanks in advance to all those who post any insight for me.
Diana
