Like humans, iguanas often like to eat things that are not good for them, and might actually prefer the bad stuff over the good(ask any child which he prefers, green beans or chocolate cake), but this means that you, like a good parent, need to put your foot down and say, "NO!" Fish is very high in protein-animal protein, which is very bad for iguanas. Too much protein will cause kidney failure and many other serious problems. Iguanas should get all the calcium they need from greens like collards, mustard, and others, and from a calcium supplement added to their food. Sardines are cheap and easy to get, but are in no way a substitute for proper nutrition. If your vet told you to give sardines to an iguana, it's time to get another vet!
