Our lizards, monitors, get the floor, bds and igs,get the upper furniture and windows. We let them all free roam with supervision and they seem to pick the spot they llike to bask in.So we set it up for them to have their basking spots there. It is as Filthy said, takes a set routine for them and some potty training, but ours all free roam and Cirsis is 11 lbs and 5ft and 5yrs old and has always free roamed. She pretty much stays in her basking spot, with trips to the bathroom tub to poop then she walks back to her spot. The bds have to be taken since they're too small to climb inot the tub.
To ig proof a room is darn near impossible. It's just a matter of training them where they can and can't go.We actually are able to leave Cirsis alone for hrs at a time and she doesn't get into any trouble(whispering this,,now she will find trouble I'm sure)That isn't a great thing to do with igs since they are a nosey lot and want to check out everything.Good luck.
