I contacted PETA today regarding the Okla situation. I think we all need to be writing to the state fair managers and putting an end it this madness. The women (Shannon) at PETA told me that these fairs throw out the left over iguanas. PETA wrote a letter and we (NAID members) wrote letters. The manager said there will be no live animals given away and if we should see this, contact......

I want to share two messages that I got regarding similar events:
My vet, actually my igs vet, said that she had seen SEVERAL iguanas in her office that had been given away at fairs. They are giving them away like they did goldfish for years. The igs she had seen were emaciated, lifeless and on the verge of death.
So many kids will be taking them home with NO IDEA as to how to take care of them. No heat, wrong foods..... It is SO VERY sad. Is there any legal recourse? I wonder if these igs have been shipped illegally.

Grandson in LONG ISLAND won an Iguana "pitching baseballs" at a carnival - When he came home with it Mom and Dad were surprised to say the least! Grandson is age 7 and oldest of four kids - youngest newborn!
What to do with it? Folks say they will grow 6 feet long - also they carry salmonella --
Dad put the poor little critter in an aquarium and it looked poorly for awhile - put a heating pad in and it started to perk up - Pretty soon it was lively -- SOOO lively it escaped and hid in the house for a WEEK. yesterday it appeared on a windowsill sunning itself. Mom of newborn pretty worried about it and hoping to find it a NEW HOME-anyone in the area want a nice little critter?
