: Maybe since most snakes live either in burrows, or other underground havens, they tend to be more nervous about flooding? Don't copperheads like to hang out on stream banks and such? I know in Maryland whenI was a kid there was a big cootonmouth that would come out before the creek rose. He lived under a stump on the bank a few feet above the usual water level. We knew if it had been raining upstream or a storm was hading in, we'd better watch where we played!
