I'm sorry Annette I can't remember how big or how old your iguana is at this time. My ig Sneakers is a little over a year old. She went through an adolestent period a couple of months ago as she was growing and feeling her strength. At that time she bit me twice. The first I was not expecting and it let me know to watch her body language a little better. Extending the dewlap, raising up, posturing the tail for a good swing, that kind of thing. The second time I knew it might happen, but I would not back down. Even after both bites I gave Sneakers exactly what she didn't want...more of me. I picked her up, petted her, touch every part of her body, and didn't put her down until she was nice and calm. Because I showed her temperarely who's boss she hasn't bit me again. I'm the only one in the house who is totally unafraid of her. Even my husband, Walt, will go to pick her up and ask me if I think she will bite. My response is, "Maybe, be prepared for it".

Again this depends on the size of your iguana and how much handling he/she has had up til now. Sneakers was about 22" snout to tail when she went through this testing period. She is now 28". If your talking an ig who's 3' - 5' in length and not handled much, I would be a lot more cautious and take it slow. When sneakers bit she had been with us for 6 months and had been handled daily. Grabbing a 5' ig who hasn't been handled much and showing them who's boss might provide you with a lot more excitement then you want. LOL

Remind us how old, how big, and how much handling your ig has had up til now. Then people with the right experience for your situation can respond with advise.
