I don't have much to add to what Bon said. With the exception of 2, all of our animals, including our fish were throw aways (Mel was an adoption from a loving family that could no longer care for her when she got to be so big -the were told by the pet store she would never get any bigger than 2 feet -they lied, she's now 4 feet long). In Dharma's case it was literal, someone threw her out into the wild -she was found by a local lake. Jimmie became an inconvience to her humans. Although I don't know how when she was kept in the basement with only a night time heat lamp -must have been all that pesky Nutri-Grow they had to buy her. Robin was being kept in a 10 gallon tank with no UV in a closet. The fish ... ah my 18" sucker fish -the neighbors begged me to take him because they couldn't afford to keep him -then they went out and bought a dog they gave away after keeping it tied to the back porch on a short hunk of rope for 3 months.

Why do I have animals?? Because they all looked at me and whispered "pLeAse tAke mE hOme wiF yOU ..."

Dharma is now a fat and sassy little gurlie. She used to drag herself along the ground -now she climbs and lounges on the back of the sofa in the sun to watch Bear In The Big Blue House while she munches on fresh dandelions every morning. Jimmie who used to tail whip now falls asleep on my chest when given the opportunity. Robin, who is still very small, has a huge enclosure s/he can climb around. They all have UV, they all have a warm basking spot, get daily baths, have humans to interact with, get to watch TV and play on the living room couch, curtains and bay window and get fed daily with the best available fresh fruits, veggies and greens. Now that it is summer they get outside play time and are allowed to munch from the plants on the back porch at will. The 18" sucker fish left his 30 gallon tank for a 55 gallon monster. The puppy gets so much love, attention and care that he doesn;t know what to do with himself. Let's see he now has chew 20 toys and has only been here a few weeks.

I have animals in my home because they needed a home and I had the extra room and extra love to give.
