: to *some* people, nothing i could ever say would be good enough for them ... interestingly, these are usually the people who keep their large dogs either in a crate all day while they're gone, or keep him chained up outside ...

: i'd say that i usually DON'T "defend" myself ... i tell them how i feel, but i refuse to be made to defend my love of iZ ...

: i tell them that *I* did not take iZ from his native environment and *I* can't send him back to the tree he belongs in ...

: i tell them "i saved iZ from a very sick, abusive woman who was slowly + methodically killing him thru her ignorance + her insanity" ...

: i tell them that i have spent the last 5 yrs trying to make up for him *not* living in the wild ... and i will continue to do that til he goes to the Rainbow Bridge + the very large tree that's there just for him ...

: i tell them that there is NO doubt in my mind that my iguana is better cared for AND more loved than their cat or dog is ... (+ if they doubt that, they get to hear the story of me taking weeks off work to stay home + care for iZ after his emergency surgery ... would THEY do that for Fido???)

: if they ARE animal lovers of ANY kind, i tell them the story of how i met iZ ~ how he went from a crazed + fighting little demon in the crazy woman's hands to a limp little pile snuggled against my neck the instant i held him ... how i SWEAR when he pressed his ice-cold little face to my warm neck, he whispered "pLeAse tAke mE hOme wiF yOU ..."

: some people, you cannot explain these things to ... some people don't even understand loving a *warm* blooded animal and to love a cold-blooded one is beyond them ...

: i don't think of iZ as my "pet" ... same as Milo-puppy is NOT "our dog" ... they are 2 beings that share our home and our life ... and hubby + i work daily to give them even 1/2 of what they have already given to us ...

: *I* am doing what *I* think is the best thing for the dragon who made his way into my life ...

: i LOVE iZ in a way that i cannot even begin to put into words ... and when i get to *that* "bottom line", i realize, i don't HAVE TO "defend" myself to people who can't or don't understand ...
