My vet said sand ok for adults. Comments?

My vet, who is an acknowledged expert in the state of MD, said that impaction was not a concern provided the ig is FULL GROWN. He says the digestive system is by then large enough to pass any grains.

I acknowledge that he is the ONLY one I have ever heard say this. Everyone book, web reference, etc, says it's a no-no. So I will probably stay away from sand even when mine is grown to be on the safe side.

What does everyone think of this?
