I would strongly recommend a cornsnake for a first time snake owner.. they are extremely easy to care for, stay relatively small, and rarely bite. Unlike iguanas and ball pythons, they do not require high temps and humidity which makes them much easier to house. I have eight. They are housed in groups according to size in regular aquariums that stay between 70-85 degrees (depending on hot/cool side and day/nite).

Ball pythons DO make good pets, but they also require the higher temps (85-92ish) or they can develop nasty respiartory infections and require antibiotic injections. They also require fairly high humidity or you run into problems with partial sheds and retained eye caps. Balls are also famous for refusing food for months on end which can be very frustrating to a first time snake owner.

: Hello! I've noticed you seem to know alot about snakes, so I've got a question for ya.....my sister is interested in getting a snake. She has looked into a ball python, but now she's not so sure. She kind of wants a pet with a little personality, and is not sure a snake is what she's looking for. Can you suggest a snake that might fit the bill? Or, would she be better off to get something totally different? She loves our little ig we have, but she works alot and really wouldn't have the time needed to get involved with that which is the reason she was looking into a snake to begin with. You can post here or e-mail me....maybe then I could just give you her e-mail addy and you could talk to her direct. Any help is appreciated!

: Thanks in advance!
