But feeding exclusivly dead mice is OK? In the wild, monitors (those large enough not to insectivours) are primarily scavengers. They would not really eat whole mice, but instead consume the muscle and organ tissue of a carcass killed by a higher preditor (and then there's the Komodo Dragon...). The ground turkey diet is proven "good" by a highly respectable zoo. It can't be an unhealthy replacement food source (try finding a wildebeast carcass when you need one!). But I think that instead of "exclusivly", I should have said "to replace the mice". Buying the turkey in bulk, this diet saves me money and the guilt of feeding a very cute, more advanced animal to a more primitve, nasty-looking (but lovable) one.
I too feed my nile other stuff, but at his stage (5.5' +) insects are loooong out of the picture.
