it sounds like if the little green guy makes it, you're going to keep him, is that right?
As far as being mean during mating season, it's not always the case, but most often it is, from what I gather from the others on this forum.
My male, Bobbit, (a rescue from a local petstore who had him in deplorable circumstances) has been in breeding season since I brought him home in mid-February. He is not mean at all to me--but he does try to mount our female, Habib. He often bites her tail and tries to climb aboard, but he usually lets go when I shout his name and say "no!".
He's such a sweet iguana other than biting Habib's tail during mating attempts. He lets strange kids hold him and pet him, and my grandma (80 years old) held him for a family photo, and he's even very good around cats and dogs.
Ig temperments tend to vary dramatically---some are mean, and some are nice. I think it has to do with the amount of handling/attention you give them, providing the correct living environment, and also genetics.
Just be sure to study up on how to tame Montana, and I bet you'll have no trouble with him when het gets big, healthy and strong.
In addition, I'd like to add that it is the opinion of some of us on this forum, that a rescued ig is a grateful ig. He just might know you rescued him from certain death and someday reward you by being a model citizen! May you be so lucky!
Here's to Montana!
