Most hardware/home improvement stores offer a variety of timers you can put on the outlets. My ex-roomate had them on everything! Even the water heater )and it always went off halfway thru MY shower till I figured out how to reset it!)

I have in Louies cage, a light fixture attached halfway up the side, enclosed in a wicker waste basket. There is a towel draped over this, and zip tied to the basket so it won't slide off. I made sure it is a low wattage bulb (40 watts) and that the basket is big enough so that there is no fire hazard and it doesn't get too hot on the outside. This provides him with a warmed perch and a basking spot underneath. the basket is securely attached at top and bottom by zip ties, so I can just clip the top ones and flip the basket down for bulb changing and cleaningI would caution anybody using this idea to make sure the waeve on the basket is tight enough not to allow toes to go thru, loose enough so they can pull out easily. Mine has very tight weave, except for about 3 inches at the top which have 1" open weave design. This also allows airflow, so it doesn't get too hot inside.
just an alternative idea. I live out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, no herp vets, no CHE's and only one other green ig (and he's a 6 foot wild monster in a zoo) So iam trying to improvise on alot of things.
