I was planning to write more, but Mom called for supper! Okay, here’s the rest:
I took the diet that Diana sent me and my teacher changed the Romaine lettuce to collard greens, that was a good start. About a week later I went to a meeting for the herpetology society that I am involved in and asked if anyone was looking to possibly adopt an iguana. I told them all about him and someone told me about this lady. She had a pair of free-roaming iguanas (possibly a breeding pair?) and the female had just died. The male very quickly became depressed and stopped eating. She took him to the vet and he said get him a friend QUICK! She had a plea out all over the province and was willing to drive anywhere and pay anything. I got in contact with her and told her all about the classroom iguana, she said that providing “he” (I’m use to calling it a he but I think it’s a she) was a female, was healthy, and got along with her other one that she would adopt him. She was willing to take him to the vet to be checked out and pay for it, as well as drive over an hour to get him, and if he was a he, bring him back. So I took this information to my teacher the very next day and presented it in a way that he couldn’t turn down. It made it feel like to him that he was doing something good for two iguanas. My teacher called the lady THAT DAY at lunch time and they met up that night. The day after that he took the iguana down to her and she took him to the vet to be checked, but I’m not sure what happened because she took him on Friday, I’ll find out tomorrow and tell you. I think that my teacher was pretty open because it was a win/win situation. I will most definitely tell the lady about this forum, and I will also write again tomorrow and tell you what happened at the vet and if she’s keeping him or not. She thought he was a girl, and I think that other than being really thin, he was in reasonable health (just a guess). My teacher came to the conclusion that the iguana was getting too big for his cage and that he didn’t have enough time for him any more, so I think if the lady can’t take him, he will be up for someone else from the society taking him. This is really sad I think, not a single person noticed that the iguana wasn’t in his cage after the lady took him…then they were mad that he was gone, but they never even noticed until the teacher pointed it out! Oh well, I hope things work out! I’ll put another post up when I know what’s going on! Bye, Wendy
