In Reply to: Softie, anything come about on that iguana needing a home in MN? Just wondering. n.m posted by Harry's Dad on August 19, 1999 at 15:30:50:
Hi; I've been emailing back and forth with the kid(he's just entering college this fall). His first stipulation that I only take her if I take the cage at the same time wasn't possible due to my sprained ankle and bad brakes on my hubby's truck. My empty cage is bigger, but he was concerned about stressing her. So I told him that if he could maybe take it apart a bit I could fit it into my car flat and put it back up afterwards, and he's trying to see if he can work that out. In the meantime he's got her at a friend's house because he's already left for college. So we're working on a weekend trip, to meet half way. This weekend I can't because it's hubby's birthday. So now we're into next week already. I commend his concern for her, but as I pointed out to him, switching cages is less stressful than ending up in a shelter. So we're working on it. He seems like a nice enough kid and he does care about his iguana. He's babied her for 6 years now, it's a dirty shame he can't keep her. He's getting no help with the sitch from his folks though; I think he's one of the kids that took the baby ig home and had no idea, but has really gone to some trouble over the years for her, and learned along the way. I'm also talking with the rescue group he'd posted her with, and I really think although it may take ahwile, we may be able to get something worked out.
This boy does not want to part with the iggy, and although I want her badly, I think for him the ideal would be to find a way to keep her. But he doesn't see that as a possibilty. I really want her, but I feel bad for him, and I also wonder how much of his story is schmaltz, if you know what I mean. I kind of take everything with an I'll believe it when I see it attitude these days. Such a skeptic I've become!
By the way: If you asked because another iggy is available, don't write me off there. I happen to know a devout reptile person not ten miles from here who'd give his eye teeth for an iguana. His was stolen a few years ago.
