I use a pretty deep non- flexible cat litter pan and only put about 3-4 inches of water in the pan, your right though about the possiblity of spilling, gross, I carefully romove the pan from the enclosure and haven't had any spills yet
and I've been doing this for about 10 years now. Practice makes perfect. :)
