The chickory can be used in moderation but I don't know if it should be a staple. The oatmeal and other unsweetened cereals are probably not harmful but not necessary either. Many people supply some grain to the diet by using 9 or 12 grain bread but I would not feed over 1 slice a month for an adult. I'm sure others may have different thoughts on this but these are mine. I have kept Igs for over 5 years and have only recently added ANY grain to the diet. So this does not seem to be an important requirement if one at all.
