I have addressed this issue in other forums. I think there should be an application/licensing process for peopl wanting to own exotic pets (and probably domestics as well!) A simple test, for first time owners, asessing knowledge of care, feeding and housing requirements. The fee should be only what the paperwork costs. This would force people to at least learn the basics. It would be an inconvenience for those of us who Do know what we are doing. But think of how many pets, exotics and domestic) that are improperly cared for simply because their owners didn't know what to feed them. OR how big they would grow! If a person is aware of this before buying a pet, they may decide on something they can actually handle. YES, this is a sore point with me, as I have rescued hundreds of animals when the owners decided they were too, big, too boring, too expensive, too time-comsuming to keep any longer.
