Glad to hear you are not interested in breeding them Nick... still, because you still live at home, I would opt for a different reptile. They DO bite, whip and scratch sooooo your family will not be pleased. Also, you can't take them away to school and that's when many iguanas get dumped. They also do not like change (so moving around isn't a good idea for them). Unless your entire family is willing to make a committment of 29 years (longest recorded captive iguana age), then I would reccommend a bearded dragon or other lizard. Don't you like your friend's??? Iguanas require VERY LARGE cages too (approx. 6ft high x 6ft long x 3 foot wide) Some people go bigger than that.
Don't get me wrong, if you ultimately decide that you will get one, we will help you as much as possible on this forum....but there are many people that take in rescues from young people that realize it was MORE responsibility than they ever imagined or could deal with.
