patience, patience, and persistence....

I got my iguana when she was a year old and she had been very abused and was nearly dead....

I can't say that she is entirely tame even though she is 4 years old now. I still have to have patience with her...she's like a stubborn child, but you can't give up...if she whips me then I keep holding on, when she figure out that she could whip me and scratching didn't help, she tried to nip at me...when that didn't work, she tried pooping and peeing to show her opinion...through all that, i've had to just hang on and be patient with her...she now knows the word "NO!" and "Close your mouth!"...she knows when she hears this to calm down and close her mouth and then I talk to her gently and she unpuffs her body and retracts her dewlap...then she's handleable.

It's a long chore, but they really can be very loving....Beavis (yes, it's tacky, but my little brother named her when we all thought she was a he) is now tame enough to take out in public and I even take her to the elem school I work at for all the kids to pet...

be patient and don't let yours win a fight with you...
