As with most things...some are for it and some are against it :o) I use crickets and veggies and maybe 2-3x a year a pinkie. Goliath wanted nothing to do with the pellet food so I'm stuck with live food.
I can say that Tom has raised many many healthy dragons using the pellets and veggies system. He's also more than willing to help you get yours started on it and answers questions quite patiently. I can't remember for sure but I believe that babies are fed crickets up to a certain age while working them toward the pellets.
For more discussion on this you might like to run a search at the dragon forum and look for posts by "Tom and Jackie" regarding pellets. I also know that some people have dragons who prefer one color of pellet over another LOL
P.S. Just cos I throw a link up doesn't always mean that I stand behind the whole thing :o) However, in this case, I do. I've "known" them for almost 3 years now and have nothing but good to say about them. I think Cirsisue can back me up on this....her male dragon is one of Tom's.
Hope this helps you out and if you decide on getting a dragon some of us here also post at the dragon forum so you won't be a stranger there :o)
