: Please someone tell me how to get poor Rex to eat. He won't even touch his greens all he ever does is sit on his favorite branch and just bask. Is there anyway to force feed him?
Based on your other posts I think you may be handling him too much.If hes brand new,he is probably a little nervous. And if a scary human is constantly staring at him and reaching for him he simply may not be thinking about eating.I have some lizards who are so nervous to this day that they will not feed if I am in the room.
If you have the proper set up,and Im guessing you do since you seem to have read Melissa Kaplans care sheet(Good idea BTW) I would try just leaving him be for a few days.Dont pick him up and try not to frighten him when you approach his tank.If hes warm enough,he has his UVB light and otherwise in decent physical condition,he should begin to feed on his own.A good misting sometimes helps.
I dont recommend force feeding him.Iguanas hate this. They absolutely hate this. And an inexperienced person shouldnt attempt to force feed any reptile. If he refuses to feed for an extended period of time and appears to be getting skinny I suggest you bring him to a qualified herp vet.Or at the very least, seek the aid of local reptile expert who has a lot of experience with iguanas and lizards in general.
