Unlike snakes lizards shed in patches rather then in one big piece. It may take several hours to several days for an animal to complete the shedding process. They also sometimes eat the shed skin so dont be alarmed if you see this.It is a good idea to give the iguana several mistings a day while hes shedding as this will make the process easier for him. Also, when hes finished check the toes and the tip of the tail for any leftover skin. This should be removed by wetting down the skin with water and gentle rubbing the skin off.A piece of shed skin left on the tip of a tail can cause the animal to lose the tip. While this isnt really harmful it does detract from the beauty of the animal and should be avoided.
I havent not read about an iguanas first shed.I would imagine it is fairly soon after hatching.Maybe someone else has more accurate data.
Baby iguanas that are growing very fast shed pretty often.Exactly how often I cannot say.It depends on a number of variables.Older animals shed considerably less often.
