Use caution when choosing your hibuscus plant.
While the plant is safe for your iguana, the
pesticides used on the plant may not be. I was
at my favorite nursery recently to pick up my
Q's first hibiscus plant. Luckily, one of the
employees stopped me before I made my purchase.
The hubiscus plants at this nursery (and many
others) are treated with a systemic pesticide
that should not be fed to any animal. "Systemic"
means the soil is treated with the pesticide which
then moves into the plant.
Before buying a plant, pull it (gently) out of the
pot and smell the soil it's planted in. If you
detect a chemical smell, pass on that plant.
I've ordered a pesticide-free hibiscus from my
nursery. It has yet to arrive.
