read this on IML.:
I am placing several igs here in DE... I have been busy. Also it takes time to reply to the many people who have been sending me emails... as I try to respond to each person individually. Right now I am not taking anymore igs due to critical situation... therefore they are on a waiting list. I consider all the igs as immediate family, so it is hard to let others place them as I am used to interviewing prospective ig parents.... I like to make sure they are going to good homes... even visiting some of the potential homes.
I have sent emails to John in PA, my last was not responded to ... I did not rule him or anyone out for fostering or placing igs for me; however I do like to talk or email a bit ... i.e. get to know a person. Just because I don't email someone back right away does not mean I am not interested, it just means I have been responding to many, many emails and I have been spending over 4 or 6hrs a day emailing people back when I get in or I have been spending time looking for a job (and working a low paying temp job) and place to live or also avoiding my problem parents (long story that some of you may know).
I even have some people that I already know in DE who have come forward lately to either foster or adopt some igs.... so you see I have been busy, this is not a scam. If you are uncomfortable with that than don't send money, at this point I don't care what some of your negative opinions are of me... I get enough of negativity here in DE from my parents... I do not need the added stress as I am stressed out enough.
I am only one person with a big heart, my adoption rate is great and I go to the extreme for my igs, even to the extent of pawning the remaining gold jewelry that I had to pay for vet bills and food. There are people here in DE or in MD, PA, and NJ who can vouch for me.
I do not need anyone's insults or criticisms. I am not perfect. Put yourself in my shoes, start a rescue and take in many igs and work with them. See if you don't get attached to many of them (I am single and have no children, therefore, the igs are my children). I even get to visit some of my placements.
I would encourage everyone to take a peek at the thread on the Kingsnake forum about Nina's situation. The URL that starts it is http://www.kingsnake.com/forum/iguana/messages/12639.html
Basically--homes were offered for 8-10 of the iguanas, but they were turned down because she wanted to do the adoptions for her adoption fee. Definitely read the thread before you commit to sending money.
natalie
I don't know who Natalie is but she has alot of nerve regarding her emails... I have never even personally heard from her... someone had to copy her email to me. I don't know how she can be so knowledgeable about a situation she has no idea of. How dare she say I turned down people!!!! Yes I do usually charge a fee like the Humane Society... which makes the people think about adopting an ig... that is not just have a big lizard but that a person must be responsible, that they must commit to possibly many years, they don't just die after 1 or 2 years. The fee filters out people like that and offsets some of the expenses I have with the igs. I have placed in excess of 30 igs this year, not to mention snakes (which I don't usually take in... I make calls and the person interested picks it up... no fee for me or the time I spent in placing the snake) So I am not in it for the money, in fact it is a losing proposition.
Also, some people have been talking about shipping igs... I have sent several emails to several people, stating that I never did that and what are the procedures? How do you ship a lizard? I personally never received a reptile in the mail nor has one ever been shipped to me. I do not know the first thing about this process.
I also run the First State Herpetological Society by myself, copying and dropping of flyers to stores(advertisement), setting up meetings/speakers, picnics and doing educational talks.
Lately I don't have time to surf the net looking for forums or even reading my favorite email lists... I have been too busy with emails and phone calls regarding places to live, igs, and jobs. The people I met tonite seem to be good people and have a bedroom and basement for me so I can regroup financially(get back on my feet) and even get help on the igs.... the lady of the house is a qualified vet tech and she loves igs, even wants a mate for her male ig (which is setup quite well). Note, they also have major financial problems but are willing to put me and igs up... even help with the igs needs.
If anyone has any problems with me or any questions, feel free to email me or call me privately; however depending on the volume of emails I get and as I may be moving this weekend it may take several days to respond; however I will respond at some point... given time and also remember I must buy calling cards to call outside of DE as I have no long distance at this time.
For those of you who have sent me money or just notes of encouragement/ sympathy, I and the igs thank you very much. Your support has meant alot to me and I will not forget it. Also, at some point I will create a web page with rescue info and photos of igs but, that is down the line after the situation is settled to a certain point. God bless you all.
