Our 2 one yr olds still HATE us...they'll tolerate us after we've put up with the whips and hisses, and the occasional bite (two times, for me, now!) but they do settle down once we've gotten them out for a while. You just have to keep it up, and be brave!!! Show them that all thier crap doesn't fool you, so that they realize it now, and you don't have to try and tell them that when theyre HUGE. (Because at that point, you're LYING!! LOL!!)

As for the food, fresh is best! If you scroll down, there's a debate (well, not really a debate) down a bit about prepackaged food under "Food for Thought" by Gibson. Give it a look.
