I emailed this woman, Nina, and she emailed me back last night. It seems that she does not want to part with her iguanas and really wants money to keep them all together. It seems that her personal problems, which she constantly talks about in her emails, are front in center in her life right now, and the iguanas are a distant second to them.
I again offered to help as we had found homes for 8-10 of her iguanas already but she wants to do the adoptions herself for her adoption fee rather than let someone else adopt out these animals.
She is worried about her standing in the rescue community because the various people she is staying with will not allow all her animals, and I tried to explain to her that there are other rescue groups that would gladly step in ONLY while she is experiencing problems and we could work WITH her to place any future animals and again, it seems to be about her.
I certainly understand being attached to your animals but I wonder about how concerned about these iguanas she is since some of them need medical care and she has no money, and she will not adopt them out to rescuers who can help them.
: I had heard about this lady through Midy at LZARR in Florida.
: Midy contacted someone in Scranton PA about this woman and the 20 iguanas that needed homes and Reptar, within a few hours, found 8-10 homes for them. He was also willing to work on the rest and/or take them in.
: However, after all the work, nothing. It sounds like she wants to keep them all together herself and not adopt them out.
: But in her situation (no home, no job) it might be best to find qualified homes and get the igs, especially those needing medical attention, in a stable environment.
: : Sorry - been busy and have not had time to post this since Kingsnake came back.
: : We need to make sure these igs find some homes. If you wanted to donate money
: : I would check the person out first though.
